Government ministers joined workers’ and employers’ organizations as well as labour and environmental experts to launch the Climate Action for Jobs initiative in Africa.
Representatives of governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations, the United Nations Executive Office, a development bank, and the ILO will hold the inaugural meeting of the International Advisory Board to provide strategic direction to the Initiative.
This Forum provides an opportunity to share good practices, knowledge and experiences and be inspired to create sustainable and decent work opportunities in sectors with high potential for green jobs creation, such as building and construction, waste management, and agriculture.
Launched at the COP25 in Madrid, the Climate Action for Jobs Initiative is designed to support countries in implementing their national climate action commitments, while ensuring that jobs, well-being and a just transition remain at the heart of climate responses.
ILO Director-General will promote decent work and a ‘just transition’ to greener economies, when he joins world leaders for the UN Climate Summit and UN General Assembly in New York.
